I am registered under my full name 'Paula Jane Pyrgos' although I am always known as Jane! I specialise in therapeutic work with children of all ages and their parents. I have worked with children and their families since the 1980s, initially as a registered nurse, then in education, and for 12 years as  a full-time school-based counsellor in international schools working across the age range, before starting independent practice in 2017, based near Shaftesbury in North Dorset. I am a Certified Play Therapist with Play Therapy UK (PTUK)  and an Accredited member of The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and I work according to their Ethical Frameworks. Having raised my four children abroad for a significant part of their childhood, a special interest area is Third Culture Kids (TCKs), exploring the impact other cultures have in shaping our identity when we live in them, move between them and return to the 'home' country.

About Jane Pyrgos

Playful, creative interventions form the core of all my work with children, young people and their parents, sitting comfortably alongside a predominantly person centred, solutions focused and strengths based approach to talking therapy. Aspects of CBT and mindfulness practices are also incorporated and my original training in psychodynamic theory underpins everything to create an eclectic approach which adapts itself to each unique  therapeutic relationship.
